Urban design for intergenerational coexistence
The MARAGALL bench was born with a simple and profoundly human idea: to create a space where different generations could meet, share, and converse.
Designed by Rosa Clotet, its unique shape invites young people to sit freely on a triangular surface, while older people find the comfort of a traditional bench. Two ways to sit, one place to be together.
Installed on the Maragall promenade in Barcelona in 2002 and manufactured by ESTEVA Barcelona, this project demonstrates how public space design can contribute to creating bonds and enriching everyday life.
Because the best public space is not only the one that is used, but the one that unites us.
